What About Jesus?

When Jesus came to earth, some 2000 years ago, he spoke with astonishing honesty and insight about our condition and God’s character and how to really live the good life. But Jesus was much more than just a wise man or a prophet. Jesus was ‘God in the flesh’ (John 1).

The Bible teaches us that Jesus came to earth to seek and save the lost (Luke 15). He did this because our rebellious attitude and selfish actions had cut us off from fellowship with God. He restored us to God when he died on the cross, graciously paying the penalty that we all deserved to pay (1 Peter 3:18). That’s why Christians call the day on which Jesus died ‘Good Friday’! When, on Easter Sunday, Jesus came back to life again he demonstrated that his death had achieved its goal.

The Bible promises that all who trust in Jesus – and him alone – are perfectly forgiven and will experience eternal life when he returns (1 Corinthians 15:20-23).

Salvation then is by ‘grace alone’ through ‘faith alone’ in ‘Jesus alone’. As such we Christians have much to celebrate but nothing to boast about. Genuine faith involves a personal relationship with God and this always results in a life of obedience, love and joy (Ephesians 2:8-10).
